Craft Beer

Stone Brewing Co., founded in 1996 and based out of Southern California, is the 10th largest craft brewery in the US. It has 11 year-round offerings and a rotating cast of special releases. The company is characterized by its world-class craft beer and irreverent and playful style of marketing. Upon release, the slogan for its Arrogant Bastard Ale was, appropriately, “Hated by many. Loved by few. You’re not worthy.” And now, for the past year, the Bastard has been granted his own lineup of beers to inflict on the ignoble world.

Arrogant Brewing

The new brand is called Arrogant Brewing, though it will still fall under the Stone Brewing Company umbrella. A bit confusing, right? In this YouTube video, Stone co-founder Greg Koch does a masterful job of explaining the concept. The most important thing to remember is that whatever the name, the beer is still brewed and controlled by one of the greatest breweries in the world, so you have nothing to worry about!

Who You Callin’ WUSSIE?

Arrogant Brewing has just nationally released its newest addition to the family, Who You Callin’ WUSSIE?, or simply WUSSIE. The name refers to the commonly held belief among beer aficionados that the pilsner, as produced by the giants of the brewing industry like MillerCoors and Anheuser-Busch, has no kick and a generally weak, watery taste. Koch cites WUSSIE as an attempt to steal back the pilsner “from the evil clutches of corporate beer,” and to restore it “to its almighty glory.” WUSSIE is a strong pilsner, with an ABV of 5.8 percent, and is sold in six-packs of 16 oz. cans. It is also available at bars, markets, and restaurants nationwide.

With the addition of WUSSIE, the Arrogant line now consists of three year-round releases. The other two are the aforementioned Arrogant Bastard Ale and the Bourbon Barrel-Aged Arrogant Bastard. The new brand also has three special releases and five small batch offerings. We encourage you to give WUSSIE a try to see what you think and to keep an eye out for the introduction of more craft beer from the Arrogant Bastard.
